My Answer:
I know some people consider "good" books as only being what mainstream critics call "classics" or "superb," but that's not always the case with me, as you can find a few trashy or tie-ins in my collection. For me to like a book, the book has to grab my interest from the first few pages, if it starts to get boring, there is better chance that I will close the book and toss it on a shelf to collect dust. The meaning of a "good" book is different for every reader. Just because I like reading one book doesn't mean somebody else will.

ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific answer. You hit every important point especially about everyone not liking the same book.
ReplyDeleteI agree about catching my attention right away. I can tell if I like it or not in those few pages. :)
Whether it is good or bad to me depends on the characters for me.
GREAT ANSWER and GREAT QUESTION this week.

It's difficult to put into words really but for me it's when you pick up a book and it captures your imagination, not necessarily right away though, your drawn to each page and really don't want to put the book down at all. I think that the connection is purely down to the writing skills of the author.
ReplyDeleteThanks Billy. A very good question.
ReplyDeleteTrue, and how often can we get lulled by the number of stars a book as been given an the well-known book seller sides :) but a low star rating doesn't mean it's a bad book, it just wasn't right for that particular person.
