Excerpt from My Angel, My Light As Darkness Falls

From the corner of the woods Pierre Blanchard saw her. She was like an angel floating around in the carnage of hell. At least she looked like an angel. Her beauty was compelling and her grace was like a dancer and a determined little flower with serious and painful intent. He could feel her emotions. Suddenly, all he wanted was to comfort her, to take her into his arms and never let her go. He started toward her and then halted, shaking his head to clear it. He could not do that. He was the enemy, the dreaded Frenchman, and he had to stay hidden. After all this horrible battle, someone had to report back to France that they were defeated. Pierre should have already left. Maybe, God willing, this time there would be no more wars. No, that was not possible. Was it not Plato that said the only men who did not war were dead men? There would always be wars. Mesmerized by his angel, he kept following her. She had on the most exquisite gown, and though it was soiled, she still looked like a china doll.
Pierre ran toward her and almost out into the clearing. He stopped just short of exposing himself. Oh, God he wanted to help her. She was so helpless and tiny and she was so broken. His heart was breaking for her as she screamed and wept, so he continued to weep too. She had found her lover. Oh, what Pierre would give for her to love him like that and to hold him like that! His features twisted into a scowl. If he could only take her in his arms and love her! His clothes would not give him away.
Reviews:
My Angel, My Light as Darkness Falls by Linda Hays-Gibbs is a delightful mix of regency romance, paranormal thriller, humor and adventure. Pru is an orphan whose only close family member is her twin brother, Michael, the Earl of White. When Michael joins the army to fight Napoleon's troops, Pru's Scottish admirer promises to watch out for him, but nothing goes as planned. From a sparkling ballroom to the agony of a battlefield, an across the sea to a curiously lively deserted house, Pru despairs, gains independence, is hassled by an amorous ghost, reassured by an angel, guarded by a bereft dog and finally... well, if you're like me, you'll be smiling all over your face by the end. I heartily recommend My Angel for those jaded by the kind of story where nothing seems to happen. Lots and lots happens in My Angel and Pru is a charming heroine.

About the Author:
She was born in Mississippi and married at a young age. She went back to school late in life, graduated with a BA in Anthropology from University of Alabama. She always loved Indiana Jones.
She loves to write poetry and jots it down all the time. Linda’s minor was in Creative Writing so her daughter told her to send some to a publisher and her poetry book got published. Then Linda sent in a couple of other fiction tales and they were published. Her fourth book, “My Angel, My Light As Darkness Falls” really meant more to her because she worked on it for such a long time and because Linda was determined to make her writing much better than it had been. Kim Richards and Sally Odgers from Eternal Press are inspirations for her. Barbara Metzger, one of her favorite authors gave Linda encouragement too. Linda loves writing and hopes to continue to do it for the rest of her life along with anything she can do for her God and children.

ReplyDeleteIt's a pleasure to know such a dedicated writer. Congratulations on your wonderful book, Lynda! I understand writing poetry is an excellent exercise for novelists...to create images and evoke emotions with precise and spare language :)
ReplyDeleteIt is but I just enjoy it. To me poetry is like singing something I enjoy but maybe I should just hum
ReplyDeleteBut you are so right Miss Hunter poetry helps us to focus on imagery and to create our scenes in our books.
